Seasonal Vocabulary & Pronunciation Tips: Here are some common February words and their pronunciations. Pay close attention to stress and tricky sounds!
🗓️ February /ˈfɛb.juˌɛr.i/ OR /ˈfɛb.ruˌɛr.i/ Both pronunciations are correct! *Many Americans drop the first 'r' and say 'Feb-yu-air-ee.'
💌 Valentine /ˈvæl.ənˌtaɪn/
The stress is on the first syllable, and the last part sounds like “tyne.”
🍫 Chocolate /ˈtʃɔːk.lɪt/ OR /ˈtʃɑː.kə.lɪt/
Americans often drop the middle vowel and pronounce it as two syllables: 'chok-lit.'
